    Hello friends,

After many hours of work due to some complications , i can present you now the first ready actuators of my rig. It is maybe the most smaller actuator in this type of conception , because i have used a 80 mm diameter round tube and space into the actuator was very very limited. I was forced to modify some fixations of the round tube to earn space but now it is OK !!!! It's a small victory for me :). Now i can go to the next step - Conception of the lower base. That's great, congrats.

With this design how many m2/s do you achieve?

I'm not sure if I want to attempt the linear or worm gear design.

    Hi,

With this design or i want to say with this BLDC motor (7030 Tr/min maxi) and this ballscrew 1605, we can have a linear speed maxi : 585 mm/s without loading. But in fact, 250 - 300 mm/s is largely enough for good sensation if i believe other people that have build a rig before me....

The two is interesting, but i suppose that the gear solution is more difficult to build .... And i'm not sure that it is more efficient the direct coupling solution that me and many members use....

    Hi,

Just a short video to show you the first motion of my actuator :)
It seems to work very well as you can see on the video. The noise that you can hear at the back it's the fan of my cisco PSU. I will find a solution for that problem later. You can also hear a noise when the actuator retracts at high speed. It seems to be a resonance of the ball screw due to the imperfection of the threated shaft .... i suppose that this noise will disappear when the actuator will work on loading. The actuator is OK now :)

    Hi,
After the linear actuator, it's time to build the lower base. I have add some modifications compared to the first 3d image. Base inf_construction.jpg ...Here a photo before welding....:) It's seems to be great ;)

    Hi Will!
    Looks super nice!! Love it.
Dont forget to prepare something to fix your base to the floor!! You will defenetly need this!

    Hi ,

    Thanks :)
I planned to add 6 feet (Vibration less ) under the base to fix it on the floor as you can see on the image. I hope that it will be enough to support strong motions of the six linear actuators.... And as you can, the three arms of the lower base will be removable to be transportable if necessary....

    Hi friends,

It's time for a new udpate.

I have finished the lower base supported by 6 rubber feet :

The upper frame is in progess ... I have encountered some difficulties to weld aluminium with MIG process but finally, it's just an helping hand to learn IMG_20201101_131550.jpg and it's possible...I will show you the result at the next update....

About the actuator, i have finished to integrate all the insert into the different PETG part (60% infill)....It was very long, but now is OK ! IMG_20201021_235258.jpg

    Hi friends,
Just a short update for an important and difficult part of my rig : The aluminium frame is now ready !!!! It was difficult to learn the MIG welding but finally, the result is so good :) and as you know, it's not finished...Note that the three arms is linked to the center with three screws (Not present on photos) IMG_20201230_114503.jpg IMG_20201230_114510.jpg

This is a fantastic project @Will974 ! I have a 2dof seat mover built with wipers a few years ago but wanted to step up the game.
I was looking at SFX-100 based actuators, that usually come from China (and are expensive) but found out about this solution that really got my attention as I already used these SK3 motors on another non-simracing project. Are you planning to detail how you build the actuators, including the parts one needs to buy? That would be awesome :)

    Hi,

I'm still working on the project. You can see at the page 1, the detail of my actuator. It was the version 1 and it works well but, i have bring many small modification to optimize it. I will make a video and a shopping list at the end of the project. I'm using Odrive board to pilot actuators. it's a beta and not easy solution but it works very well and low cost. For example , you can see the rig of @SilentChill and @PeterW and others.....

    Thanks :)

Excellent work there, you're going to love it, the odrives provide lovely smooth fast motion.. when you've managed to get them set up! Just be sure to run 36V or lower otherwise you may encounter issues.

    Hi friend,

Thanks dude ! I'm already conviced by odrive :) Of course, i have already order the three 36 V PSU .... My cisco PSU 42 v seems indeed to be causing malfunctions.... See everybody for the next update soon ;-)

    Hi,

I continue to develop CNC part of the different part of my actuator. I like to use this CNC turn !!!:)
However , the 6 first actuator will be in 3D print. I want to verify that it is also possible to make it with low cost technical solution ;-)
