Question Hydraulic Powered Steering Wheel

    Hello,

    I read through most of your threads, you guys are great.

    As I discussed a direct drive wheel with my DIY partner, he asked me why not pull a power steering pump from a car and work with it.

    I don't know. He knows how to hook up the hydraulics and we have a lot of car stuff at our disposal.

    Would it work? There's literally nothing on Google about it.

    My Motion Simulator:
    2DOF, DC motor, Arduino, 6DOF
    It could work, but you may have to adjust the pump speed to get more/less force

    The pump speed may not be able to respond quick enough

    Thank you, I also have those concerns. I'm going to see about getting a pump then.

    If anyone has any ideas on stuff that could be adapted & invented from 90s German sedans, drop me a line please.

    Also, any ideas on how the pump would be powered? We were thinking of using an electric motor and a belt.

    Yeah, I saw a thread on another forum about someone using the electrical power steering out of an Opel Corsa 1.2, but I can't find it now.

    I saw complaints of cogging and stiffness because of the motor being geared. I don't know if they all are though. It worked.

    I guess if hydraulics could be made to work there would be no cogging, it would be very smooth.
