Sorry mate. Didn't miss it. Was just gonna respond when I've got the dd wheel up and running. As I'm a bit undecided on which one to settle on.

At the moment I've been using a 600w 24v power supply but I've only found out from this forum recently, that it's the current that provides all the torque. So I could go back to 12v 600w power supply and get the same torque, while using less power, which I guess will generate less heat.

I'll let you know when I've bought the 12v power supply, if it's any better to use. It's just a big waiting game at the moment, as it's Christmas.

    Sure man :D
From what I've understood, most people go with 12V 80A or 12V 1000W if they're going the Direct Drive route BUT it's too expensive for me, so I would love to know if 600w is enough

With 12v its 50amps, why not? But that also will depend from the motor too not only from the power supply.

I think I will be using a MY1020 36v 500w motor, what would you recommend?

So 12V 80A? I found a cheaper alternative to finding the components for cheap, which is Ali Express, including the 48v 1kw motor, so I will be going that route, since I do plan on gaming for long hours :D

Does anyone know any good model names for a 12v 80a power supply?

then you can find the PSU first and before buying it, ask question if the pinout is known in a new thread of this RC forum

I think in the Cousin of OSW thread, someone mentioned that a 1000w motor can handle about 200w of heat at stall. I guess that a 500w motor will handle about 100w of heat at stall, which is too little. I have the 1000w my1020 and a fan sucking air through, and it gets mildly warm after driving for a while. If y0u go with the 500w, i think you need to have real good cooling or use little torque (but then, what's the point?)... so, go for the 1000w.

For the power supply, I'm using a DL580 G2 HP power supply 870w. I believe there are 2 versions, and the one i have is the big and heavy one (so, it's off the rig). The wiring can be found online on the rcgroups. I have the 1000w my1o20, and it runs it without any problems (i use 2 ibt-2)

I don't know if you have considered this, but you need buttons on your wheel. You can go the wires or the wireless route (for example, buy a cheap wireless controller and mod it on your wheel). I went the wire route with something like this:

Ahhhhhh I can't get the link to post... it's a replacement mic cord that is coiled.

It only has 6 wires, so I have 4 working buttons including the shifter.

Ah, so yes, you also need to figure out how you are going to make the on-wheel paddle shifters working. What I did was salvage a used wheel with paddles, and rewire the insides with the mic coil cord. I'm sure there are other ways to do it...

Here is a pic of what the mic cord looks like:
