    Hi All,
    I to have started the journey, First time builder, long time sim flyer.
    I got very lucky and bought actuators from a member with all electronic to go with them.
    So all to do now is build aluminium frames and assemble......Hopefully.

    Also have trouble working out the correct size for the base and top platform.
    I've done some autoCad drawings but it seems so big, does anyone have comment on the size difference between top and bottom platforms??

    But verify the dimensions, I made it to be the most compact possible.
    You might want it larger. (easier to enter/exit)

    but after all you make it how it suits yiur build.

    ive learned that the design follows the circle.. and triangles 30 , 60, 120 degreees

    Another note,
    The actuators size are one of the most important factors here,
    And an ideal hexapod, to have the largest dof in all 6 dof, would be a simetrical one:
    Same size top and bottom
    Same point where actuators touch each other (same joint would be great, but I don't see how)
    And equally spaced 360°/3=120°

    I'm completing a Cad draw of the actuators that i have, mine appear to longer than yours, so not too sure on what the % increase in platform size would be to cater for that

    you have to becareful what you increase, or else the actuators pivot beyond structural limits....

    I'm trying to find someone in southern germany able to do aluminum welding for a reasonable price, but so far no joy :-(

    Intuitively, I agree! Unfortunately I have very few rational arguments for/against that. Depending on the actuator length this would be a quasi-regular octahedron. If anyone knows any mathematical papers on the topic, i'd appreciate.

    i made my bottom frame out of wood. but will be using steel for the top frame.
    looking forward to see your top frame, your bottom frame looking very nice!

    Hi guys. Why is it work takes up so much time, still trying to get to the top frame. I think I might be 100-150mm to long on the long edges of the base frame but not sure. Think I'll just continue and shorten later

    Unless your going to attach it to the floor somehow, I would always make the base out of steel so it has some weight/stability. Even with a steel base (although not that heavy) + 6 Actuators/capsule, my old 6DOF stewart platform use to often lift itself off the floor and travel. But it is of course always good to keep the top frame as light as you can.

    What happens is that 100 kg turns into 100kgs + of inertia when the rig is moving fast. Just something to keep in mind and for anyone else building a 6DOF base that there is no need to go to the trouble of building it light.

    Seatime is right. It is a good thing to keep the platform light (because of inertia), but the base is better to to be heavy and stable. Your weight won't keep it down. Exactly the opposite. 100 kgs trowed in a direction has a great potential to bring many things with it, like a light base.

    I don't remember what make me choose the size of my base, but for the platform, it was the length of a carbon tube (1 m) so I didn't have to cut it.

    Thanks guys, didn't think of it that way. So now the choice, diet or fab a steel base? Then steel base it is....lol
    I think for testing I'll stay with the Ali base until I decide the exact diemensions and then just fab it up.

    Hi Brains trust, what are your thoughts on seat position in the top frame? Should I be positioning it in the centre of the triangle? Or further back to take into account the weight of my legs and foot peddles?
