Hi all, first post here from me and have been going hard researching, testing, printing, designing/redesigning and confusing myself quite well so far.

However I need a bit of clarification.

    What I use -
    • Vive Pro - I now never game in 2d, always in VR.
    • G27 Wheel
    • Static Rig - with transducers running simvibe under pedals and also another pair on seat for LFE to fill in the felt/heard bass - works pretty damn good.

    What I want - Motion....for increased immersion

I race mostly, and fly (regular earthbound aircraft to space ships in Elite Dangerous).

Ideally I would just go hard and go 6Dof, but due to the sheer expense and complication I am thinking that for VR I may be able to get away with a much simpler and cheaper solution (at least for now).

So I am thinking of going down the route of a balanced seat and pedals 2DOF (with traction loss added at a later date).

So based on that, the motor in this kit by Motion Dynamics would work correct?

    https://www.motiondynamics.com.au/home-brewer-special-worm-drive-motor-dc-speed-controller.html

Which is the same motor mentioned in these forums many times - https://www.motiondynamics.com.au/worm-drive-motor-12v-24v-200w-180-rpm-20nm-torque.html

So if my assumption that the motors would be suitable, I am going to guess there is a good reason the included speed controller in the kit in the first link above, would not be suitable for my application? - Arduino based - (based on total cost here being too low and that I know eff all about DC speed controllers)

    Thanks in advance, from NZ

    Cheers Rob

While the Motion Dynamics motors have been used successfully by many member I am not aware of anyone using that controller for a motion sim, where hardware is subjected to high speed loads and constant reversals, with associated current spikes.

So unless you want to blaze the path of evaluating and figuring out how you would interface that controller with SimTools, you may want to consider established hardware.

Thanks noorbeast, that clears that up, keeps it simple (non-trail blazer in this case).

Do you have a pic or video or thread for your rig, I've read a little about it here and there but I don't recall seeing it yet?

    Ahh primo, thanks for that.

Now that's a well detailed read so far, glad I get to read yours before committing further :)

    Cheers

There are so many possible design and build approaches, it pays to check out what others have done so have a look at the pinned projects in the DIY thread section, then if a design grabs your fancy take a swan dive into other projects that use that design for more detailed ideas: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/
