    I must be crazy, I ordered the

    [Early Bird] First 8K Full Package Ever 8K Headset (Laser tracker integrated) + Controllers*2 + Base Stations*2- The best 8K experience in one package.

    Hopefully this goes well, delivery is not before next year. Finally I could not resist lol.

    • Kickstarter controllers will be similar to knuckles (finger tracking, different design than demo controllers)
    • The bundles which include Basestations will have Steam VR Tracking 2.0
    • They will offer prescription lenses on their website which use magnets to clip into the HMD
    • Eye tracking module is developed by partners, will use same magnets, and enable foveated rendering
    • low persistence with the LCDs works. No smearing.
    • Wide FOV is impressive. Software must be designed to use Wide FOV, otherwise it gets stretched in the peripheral vision.
    • Small text in BigScreen is readable. Pixels are visible though.
    • Much less god rays than Rift
    • Headset is comfortable and light. Norm's glasses fit in without problems.
    • Norm: Lenses need improvement, as they distort the Image a bit. Jeremy didn't notice that.
    • Jeremy had issues with the IPD not matching his eyes.
    • Vive Basestations and Controllers will work with the HMD.
    • Prototype controllers were not good at all

    I seriously looked at it, but still have some concerns over the very immature technology that they are trying to implement - especially after the issues I had with the '4K':rolleyes: version.

    Thank you for pointing this out - as we know it is early stage and theses first prototypes are still in development. NTL it will be a step further to the next gen vr headsets, I decided to be a part of this "development" (guinea pig).

    The Tested review is positive, with some caveats, the biggest being that they did not get to try genuine 8k content and Norm's comments about the lenses perhaps needing more work. As it uses SteamVR the tracking should be solid and it really sounds like they did a great job of integrating Leap Motion as an add on.

    While I dislike Kickstarter this is an established company and it is a fully fledged working prototype and one that particularly suit sim titles, so that should really suit your use @Pit. But I have decided not to jump on board with Pimax just yet, as my interest is VR in general, general public use in particular, and there are some other HMDs and related technologies in the pipeline that I want to hear more about before adding any more to my existing VR HMD collection.

    I have been following the Primax 8k for some time and was ready to jump on the kickstarter, but at the last minute they revealed quite a few changes that caused a negative stir on the forums. It not true 8k and the headset with native 4k panels wont be out until 2nd/3rd quarter 2018.

    It took them a year to more or less iron out the issues with their 4k headset, so I will wait and see how the reviews stack up in the real world before I part with my cash. I hope they do well and with LG's latest VR offering and the Nvidia Volta, next year could be interesting.

    They have 4k panels in the first headset, but upscales resolution due HDMI limitations.

    Even so it does not really translate to 8K equivalence in terms of traditional screen aspect ratio, as it has the width but not the height, though personally I don't think it helps to use traditional screen measures for VR HMDs so it is a bit of a mute point.

    Even though I have not supported the Kick Starter, I'm still an interested viewer :)- From the Pimax 8K website that I get updates from. Don't know how correct it is, but interesting info if nothing else. Marries up with what I would expect from my own experiences with the PIMAX current VR product - The actual pixel density with a 200 degree FOV should not be that much different then the current 4K/2.5K 110 Degree VR Headsets.

    I'd be interested if it gave less SDE and allowed better viewing for targets etc.. at distance for flight sims. I dont need room scale as I currently use my rift for flight and race sims.

    Agree, I would rather they sorted out their 4K at 110 degrees, I would have happily purchased that product :rolleyes:- I feel that they have jumped in too far, with current software not even supporting what they are trying to do. Eg - No current game supports 200 Degree FOV and likely won't for a long time.... Just me ranting...:p.

    Honestly I think you are confusing something...the game does not limit the FOV, using triples we have almost a bigger FOV in comparison with VR (approximately up t0 180°), the limitation is on the hardware side.

    Agree, I have seen triples covering 180 degrees - Just reiterating what PIMAX and the 'experts' are saying - Because of this PIMAX have to stretch/distort the edges of the image. Maybe it is a limitation when using just one or two video feeds/screens :think.

    Very very tempted but I think I will wait until next fall to see what the release (and bug fixed) version looks like. My vive works perfectly for driving and room scale.
