As long as he is putting out a good product then all the power to him. On another note - saw your comment about drying filament - cannot argue with the science - has anyone tried just using a food dehydrator - I can get those locally/cheap ($60)?

Im sure it would be fine and A man of your talents im sure will make it way cooler than the Print Dry could ever imagine.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Any pics of my unit lmk.

I would remove or just cut out the middle of the inner trays. I like the round one - the trays are removable ($45) :). Print/make a spindle to hold a roll of filament (Print Dry), drill a hole in the side to run a sealed tube to the printer and it would be safe from moist air all the way to the printer head. I added the last one as although it is $120 it is meant to be more efficient due to the fan being at the back.

yupp that round one is basically what the print dry is, Likely the same factory that made those units. but obviously customized.

    RECOMMENDED DRYING TIME
    No.MaterialsDryer TempDrying Time
    1PLA45°C (113°F)> 4h
    2ABS60°C (140°F)> 2h
    3PETG65°C (149°F)> 2h
    4Nylon70°C (158°F)> 12h
    5Dessicant65°C (149°F)> 3h

These recommendations are made for the following conditions.

    * Ambient RH: 50% * Ambient Temp: 20°C (68°F) * 500g (1 lbs) filament spool

Actual drying time for a filament may vary under different environmental conditions as well as the initial water content levels in the filament. In addition to drying prior to 3D printing, drying the filament while printing is always recommended.

Well, i got the print dry device, but I don't like the position of the holes for the filament to dry while print. The filament comes out in angle and has resistance. I melted my own "angled feeding holes" to help it.

Alll you have to do is turn the holes to match the angle your printer is pulling at. If you twist the walls you will see what i mean, the Stock holes are all you need. No melting required.

I tried that but doesn't work for 3mm filament, it presses against the hole walls. See what i mean below (used a piece of white filament as i was printing with the one in the reel.

    IMG_20170802_071032.jpg

The printer is located above the print dry, so its even worse trying to pull the filament up!

Ahhhhh, I only run 1,75mm so explains it....... You need a near perfect angle for 1.75, So 3mm would be a no go. Thanks for clearing that up . :thumbs

The Drier has arrived. At $40AUD, I'm pretty happy with it :). Would have cost allot more for the 'Print Dry' especially once you add postage to OZ . Just need to put a 'lazy Susan' like rota-tor in the base so that the spool can turn when I use it with a operating printer.

Still resisting. I have a simulator to concentrate to, but I have been sick lately with a strange sickness called Laziness.

But I ordered a bigger hot end (Metal J-Head V6 Hot End Hotend Extruder ) that would be part of a future conversion from direct drive to Bowden extruder. I could mount the motor drive directly on the food dehydrator...

I REALLY prefer having my extrude on my X axis, I couldn't fathom of dicking around with tubes and feeding it all the way in and having to deal with that. Here's a picture that should show how much i change filament and colors at times, Having a different printer without a direct style feed, I would loose my mind.

So far, I don't care much about colors. This could change of course, but it takes so much effort to simply load the PLA in my extruder that once loaded, I don't really want to change it.
You are well set up, and I understand why you want to keep it that way. But it looks like you already change many things on you printers. Is it the case? And I see that you do have an dehydrator, my PLA would sleep into it if I had one.
I have to be careful that sometimes I want to change stuff just for the sake of messing things around instead of doing it to accomplish real work.

I honestly haven't added much at all to the printer, I was on the Anti Vibration feet for a while, but have since remove them after a bearing swap after a year's worth of use. (wow fresh bearings are nice)

Aside from that, All i have printed is a different spool holder and a little Futurama Bender for the filament coming from the Dryer. I often have the Dryer running all day swapping in and out different filaments as i use them. Having 12+ different spools on hand can be a bit much for some, but i print a Variety of things and colors, so its needed for me.

Some printers can be improved upon with mods, the prusa is a pretty stout unit outta the box. So very little modding needed.

That main dryer frame has a few different brands slapped on it for sale all over the world, the Knob and the Power switch are a dead give away. Its the Thinner individual layers that make it a bit of a pain Versus the print dry, but like you said modding something up is easy peezy and it was cheap as dirt compared to ordering in a print dry from the USA.

I could not resist for long.

    IMG_1659.JPG

I was on sold from 65 to 45$.

    IMG_1660.JPG

I checked if it worked first (in case of a return) and then started to remove the center of 3 rows and I could fit my pla roll inside.

    IMG_1666.JPG

I did a little test by just putting some marbles on it.

    IMG_1661.JPG IMG_1663.JPG

Then I put my roll over it. It turned like a charm. All I need is to learn to design a proper rail for the marble, a carbon tube a the center and I should be able to pull pla out of it easely. But for now, back to lazy vacation.
