I am coming from G27 pedals so its not hard to get better but I want as good as I can get for around £400-£500

If anyone has any alternatives for around the same price please tell me cause I'm undecided.

To me those big pedal sets may look nice, but when your running a 6DOF your going to pay for fitting all that extra weight (I even rebuilt my pedal set from Carbon). From my experience and with the help of others with testing the pedal that most needs improving is the brake pedal. I pulled my G27 brake Pedal apart and placed in different springs and various density layers of rubber blocks to try to mimic how a real brake pedal feels. Got the thumbs up from all testers compared to the old standard spring. Fitting a pressure sensor (will do it one day ) would also improve the 'feel' /realism of the brake pedal. One thing I cannot understand is the hydraulic setups on some expensive pedal sets o_O hydraulic oil does not compress.(just a pure transfer of positional energy from one area to another)..so it is really just there for the looks/bling...

I have added the nexus mod and I have the leo bonar cable but they are still just not good enough, I also think my accelerator pot is on its way out cause its all over the place. Maybe a DIY solution would be just as good even modding the G27 with better pots would be a start.

Can I use my old hall effect pots on the accelerator ?

They're not light, just under 8kg if I remember correct if you include the baseplate.
    Without that plate about half..

Ok, I also used a log pot in my brake pedal (although I know you can do this in software), so cannot see why other pots could not be used - you just need to re-calibrate them. Hall effects - as with a sim you would have to make sure they are wired correctly.

Hydro pedals are the best at simulating a real brake pedal. The master cylinder is used to compress either a spring or some rubber via a slave piston.
Most DIY setups that I have seen don't do that second part which is why they say the pedal feels bad or wrong. The absolute best way to do this would be to buy an actual pedal box for a race car ($$$$) and a brake caliper and place a material in-between the calipers piston. It can be done with car parts from a scrap yard but is really ugly, heavy and a space hog. Very hard to calibrate correctly as well.

You can re-use old pots as long as you get the travel distance correct.

How is this different to placing a spring and rubber setup directly under the pedal and leaving out the hydraulic circuit?

The difference would be the dampening effect that the hydraulics would provide. It's not much but noticeable.

Ideally you don't want any springs at all on the brake pedal.

But there is a spring on the brake pedal - at the end of the hydraulic circuit and a brake return spring on most real car brake pedals - I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this one.

A real car is not a race car ;) I've not driven a car with a return spring on the brake.
Even then, if they did have a spring it would be quite weak.
What you feel pushing back is the Vacuum assist booster which most race cars do not have.

The brake pedal seems to be the most contentious subject in terms of pedals, as some like authenticity and then others like a specific feeling
like the sponginess that road cars have.

It's a shame you cant freely test different pedal types to know what type you really like.

Nearly every car that I have worked on the brake master cylinder also has a return spring - another spring may be used on the pedal if these are found to not be strong enough - are these not used on real race cars. Just trying to educate myself .

I have just won on Fleabay a set of V3 pedals with Brake and Accelerator dampners and Handbrake.

Sure they will be an upgrade from my G27's and my homemade handbrake :)

Ive had a sed of DSD and V3 and i actually feel the extra price of the DSD is not worth it over the V3 with the Dampner kit
