    Hi all, thanks for the interest in the board/wheel. At the moment it doesn't make sense to have too many out in the field while changes are still going on.

    It is taking longer than expected but as you can see from @Daguru 's feedback it is pretty close now.

    I learned that the Accuforce is a stepper motor with an encoder added, so this does make sense. I would like to see a tutorial on your website that shows the encoder installation, before I was comfortable doing it. Also I would like to see a 5000 encoder. Good job...let us know the progress! :thumbs

    When you start looking for encoders greater than 2000ppr the price goes up considerably - might as well just go for an OSW servo design if this is your goal.

    Hi guys
    Just made a quick video trying to show the level of torque this SSW can produce, please excuse my driving lol also the reason I'm using my old g27 rim is I wanted a direct comparison turns out there was no point to this as its way way stronger and better in every way.

    I tried to include all aspects clipping kerbs ,slightly off track, locking up, flat spotting etc

    To be fair this wheel is awesome !!

    Hi all,
    Just thought I would give some first impressions on the wheel seems I've had it over week now and given it a good thrashing :grin

    Jumping from game to game the results was the same good strong FFB
    You really feel the the weight of the car, the torque turning into corners is awesome and helps with immersion and control.

    I can't feel any deadzone or input lag that coupled with the stronger FFB means catching slides now feels real and rewarding .

    Understeer feels wicked it's very progressive from slight traction loss hitting that corner a little to fast right through to full front lockup its a great feeling.

    Susspension feeling is also great even more so on dirt rally where your steering is getting light and heavy over all the humps n dips.

    I could go on but over all its a great wheel the bang for buck is massive !! hats off to @RufusDufus hes done a fantastic job with the project thus far and is still working to make it even better.:thumbs

    Hi!

    This looks VERY interesting indeed! I would be also interested in your board when it is ready:)

    I would like to ask you guys some questions if possible.
    -in youtube comparison videos between stepper and servo motors they are sayng that stepper motor loses torque with rotation speed. Is it the case here? How good is it in accelerating and rotation speed?
    Would be great if you could post some video with drifting to show how the wheel behaves:) Maybe you could do some wheelcheck tests and post the results?
    -does it still have that nothchy feel no high Nm? Can you feel that while driving? I understand that it works on 100% power and one need to lower the ffb in game?

    In simexperience website thay claim that their wheels are not stepper motor based but some hybrid with servo motor"

    Well the simple fact is stepper motors have many more poles than a servo motor and hence the signals required to drive the stepper have to be at a much higher frequency than those required for a servo motor at the same speed. Due to the inductance of the windings (and other things) it is difficult to generate such signals so it becomes impractical to drive the steppers at higher frequencies. When you are reading general industry stepper vs servo comparisons though they are generally talking about frequencies of 1000rpm or more. A sim wheel typically only needs about 300rpm max. Steppers have good acceleration at low speed, so from stand still they get moving fast.

    I can't drift at all so you won't get any videos from me sorry.

    So in short I would say for the range of rpm required by the sim wheel the torque doesn't drop with speed - however I have yet to do proper torque testing on the wheel.

    Yes there is still a notchy feel at high Nm but it is getting to the point it is not distracting although everyone will have their own opinion on that. I'm sure there will always be those that say it rubbish and their alternate wheel blows it out the water - just as the debates go on between wheels now.

    Yes I have read the article and many other posts on the web by them - no comment.

    here is the link if anyone interested.
    Its a good reading but you have to keep your attention to details.

    When Berney says "The simple fact is, a stepper system couldn't even be used for the purpose of steering simulation." the main word here is SYSTEM. Stepper system doesn't have encoder or other feedback device, and because if this its hardly be used for FFB wheels. For example you never know the rim position after power on, or if you miss a step you can't sync the rim's position with a game again, etc, etc
    So obviously you need to have some kind of feedback device and SimExperience uses an encoder. But motor is still stepper! And because of this they named it "hybrid stepper servo". Servo here just means we have feedback device to correct action of stepper motor.
    If we use this terminology I believe @RufusDufus' project is "hybrid stepper servo" also. And G27 (for example) is "hybrid stepper servo" too
