hi all im Craig and want to build a sim but need it as lightweight as possible so love noorbeasts dx racer build and would like to know where ect i can get motors in UK as i can only find 30:1 and upwards ratio which would this do? or would a 50:1 ratio be best while running my Logitech G29 full set up? any advice would be soo much help and once iv built a racer set up i will then use the same design for my dad that uses dcs world and flight sim only, he mainly loves his ac10 warthog whereas i love my driving. once again many thank and any help welcome. best regards craig

i work offshore guys so thats why i want/need this set up as light as i can manage without giving in to structural integration.

So is your aim to build a light rig, then pull it apart, transport the bits of the rig to an offshore location in parts and then reassemble? Or have I missed the point?

yes my aim is to have a light rig to reassemble offshore and also to fit in a suit case for transport.

So do you want it as a 2DOF or 3DOF, as I upgraded mine, and what do you plan on using as a seat, as that is the bulkiest part?

The reason I asked is that if I were to build a 3DOF from scratch, instead of upgrading my existing rig, then I would have made it 600mm X 500mm, instead of 500mm X 500mm, just to gain a little more design leverage.

The rest of the design is pretty straight forward and as it bolts together it can easily come apart and fit into a suitcase, with the pivot post being the heaviest part.

I built the wheel and pedal mount, which I prefer for my own use, but I also have a WheelstandPro that I use with my rig when I do transport it around, as it is much easier to pack.

I am about to pull my rig apart and shift the PSUs and JRKs from the sim base to the computer mount box I built ages ago, with easy plug in cables. That is to make it easier to move, as the base will be lighter, and getting to the PSUs and JRKs much easier. I can pick the base up as it is now, but with 3 motors, 3 PSUs and the heave knee it does weigh a bit

I will also be adding more transducers once SimTools supports them.

Other than that I have been pretty happy with my rig. It works well for me for its intended purpose, using it with VR.

Let me know if you want any close up photos of particular aspects of the construction, as I can take them when I have it in bits again over the holidays.

after reading your build i was thinking to extend the measurements like you have just said, i would also be building a wheel and pedal mount and hoping i can do some sort of quick fold system for it. many thanks for your replys i will get busy doing some planning and sourcing motors ect here in the uk.

IMO - This still all looks a bit heavy to be carrying around as luggage  - @rodderz27 don't want to railroad you into another direction, but have you though of looking at a 'G seat' design?

Not quite the same as a seat mover, but can be built very compact and light compared to a seat mover (Eg I could clip the G module that I have just built to an office chair). Just food for thought :).
