@RufusDufus Sign me up too. Nice video looks like you got it running smooth. Is it possible to get a parts list so we can get ready for your board.

I wouldn't start buying just yet, I'm still tweaking things, I will make full build details available soon.

I thought you had an OSW?

right, but I would like to compare your experiment with my OSW, if you allow to do so. As far you know, I like burning things, your board is welcome to burn down my house lol. Just kidding, seriously I am interested in your hardware if not too expensive.

Of course - it can make fire if you wish. When it is ready I will create a new post in the commercial section with all the build details and costs etc. All up I estimate a basic wheel (no shifters/buttons) will be about AU$600
As this is intended as a low cost DD wheel I wouldn't expect it to match the OSW. I have only used a G27 before so don't have much to compare with.

AU$600 is not exactly cheap, I'll think twice before buying it. This is no critism, just managing my money (VR, steering wheels etc.).So I wait for your post in the commercial section. Anyway i wish you success, as an alternative of the OSW it could be worth the money.

Yes, the benefit will be different in different countries. Unfortunately here in Oz a OSW build was close to AU$2000 back when I first started. A g29 here is AU$500 unless you can find a good deal. A clubsport V2 wheelbase is $1000.

Maybe it will only be of benefit those here in Aust. Anyway I understand everyone has there own requirements, for those that are interested it will be another option.

    Hey rufus,

Just wondering when you think your driver will be ready and how you think the wheel setup compares to g27?

Well it's basically ready now I think, however I need to sort out a boot loader for software updates, build a batch of boards, test them, finish the build documentation so people can use it, go on holidays... realistically it will probably be early Jan 17.

I will see if I can start getting more details posted this week so people can start to make their own assessment of what's involved and whether it might suit their needs.

Compared to my g27 it is much better to me. My g27 was a couple of years old and suffered badly from a worn deadzone which rattled really bad. Also the max torque is much greater with the stepper. There is still some torque ripple I haven't yet been able to eliminate but hoping that I can sort that out in software with more work. In my opinion its not that noticable when driving but I'm sure there are those that would fixate on it and not like it at all.

    Hi RufusDufus, fantastic job.
I still do not know if your intention is to make a controller kit and then each one will look for the other elements (stepper motor, power supply, etc.) or if, on the contrary, your intention is to To make a complete kit ready to use with all its components.
I ask you this question, because if it is the second, it is very likely that sending everything to Europe is very expensive. However, if it is only the controller, the shipping gas would be greatly reduced and the rest of the elements would be much cheaper to look for them from here.
    Thank you very much.

Just the motor driver board - the rest will be upto the builder to source.

    hi Rufus,

Thank you for the response, yeah I'm suffering from the same thing with my logitech driving force and my pedals are worse for ware as well. This would be a great option and you have done some pretty awsome work, if people want to buy it you have told them what you think about it and any issue you have found. To be honest anyway most of the entry level wheels suffer from a little oscillation anyway due to the deadspot's and weak FFB. I would definately be interested when have it up and going and also I am willing to test for you if you require it, I clock a fair few hours on iracing during the week.

    Cheers

    Hi @RufusDufus ,
Is there a list of components I would like to work out total cost and see how available the parts will be in the uk ;)
    Regards

Well I'm still working on things so I wouldn't recommend you start buying anything yet in case I don't get to release the board...

Also I will be posting some videos later in Dec to try and show (as best I can in a video) how it works and the torque ripple etc, to help people decide if its for them.

But to help your curiosity, I am still aiming to have some ready for Jan 17. I expect I will target Australia for the first few boards to make sure everything goes smoothly first. I need to work out shipping methods and costs as well.

I wasn't planning on releasing this yet but since you asked here is a link to the info I have setup so far: https://sites.google.com/site/steppersimwheel/

Wow! I am really interested in this project! Would be a good upgrade to my T500RS while waiting for some commercial DD-wheels from Fanatec or Thrustmaster.

But I have a couple of questions:

What motor driver did you use? "Sim Wheel Stepper Motor Controller"
Would it not be easier to mount the encoder to the motor by using a dual shaft motor? Something like this one?

Hi RufusDufus, great stuff on the wheel, what part of Adelaide are you in?

I don't have a DD wheel you could compare it to, but I have the next best thing, an ECCI 7000. Let me know if you'd like to see if we can find a time that works for both of us to get together and compare the wheels to see where yours sits compared to a fairly high end wheel?

    Hi Guys,
Just want to say a massive thanks to @RufusDufus for sending me one of these boards for building and testing:thumbs !!
I'm very happy to say it all went together and is working very well, games tested so far :-

    Automobilista
    Assetto corsa
    Rfactor 2
    Dirt rally
    Race room
    And Richard burns rally

For me I can only compare it to my g27 and it blows it out the water ,night and day, you feel loads more and it feels so much stronger I'm loving it so far !!

I will get a more detailed review and a video or two after more testing.
I guess I better get back to it this wheel ain't goning to test it self lol:grin
