Sharper VR visuals trick with VRSS

Courtesy of @Gwiz try this for supported RTX Nividia cards and games: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/sharper-vr-visuals-trick-with-vrss.14608/

This trick only applies if you have an NVidia RTX generation card. NVidia introduced a variable rate super sampling which performs selective super-sampling without lowering your frames per second. (When set to adaptive mode). With this I can have the center of my image at a much higher resolution than normally possible without lowering the resolution of the rest of the field of view. There are few games officially supported but you can apply it to any game with a little hack:

The most recent game driver updates disabled the hack, but you can still download a working recent driver which will work fine. Here's how you do it:

Download NVidia driver 442.92 and install
Download NVidia Profile Inspector
Enabling VRSS:To enable VRSS, open the NVIDIA Control Panel and select Manage 3D Settings, then scroll to Virtual Reality – Variable Rate Supersampling, and change the setting to “Adaptive”.
Open NVidia Inspector and click on the icon to the right of the Driver version to bring up the window of all the settings.
Select your game from the drop down list.
Scroll to the very bottom of all the settings and change:
"0x00D5E9C6" set to 0x000001 & " 0x00D5E9C7 " set to 0x000002
Click apply changes
Right click your desktop and open NVidia control panel.
Select 'Manage 3D settings' and select Program Settings
Select your game exe, for example pcars2avx.exe
Scroll to the bottom and select VRSS to adaptive
Within the game turn on MSAA and then restart the game to apply.

It doesn't of course track your eyes like hopefully future VR headsets will but it can still make dials easier to read in VR without impacting performance.
