    Hi Everyone,

For the life of me I can't get FSX Steam Edition to give me motion.

I intially had all the other issues (Sim tools crash / .NET issue) but now I ran all the simconnect.msi and that part is fixed, however when I fire up FSX I DO get the Blue connect / game running and my motors shoot to centre, however in the Tuning centre I get no values at all.

Also, once FSX exits, Simtools stays blue and Game Manager stops responding and I have to end the process.

All other games and profiles work fine (DCS, X-Plane) and all my driving games, but FSX is driving me nuts...

Like I said I have tried all the threads and not sure what else to check / look for.

(PS - Thanks @noorbeast for previous advice, but as per above, no joy.)

I think you need to flag this one for @value1, it sounds like it may be a bug and I am not sure anyone has tried the Steam version of FSX before.

Thanks @noorbeast - I do have the Deluxe Boxed Version as well, so I might try that...

...then at least I can report to @value1 if indeed it is a bug.

I really would like to find out if this is a Steam FSX plugin bug or not @value1 and @Archie.

I have been asked by the developer Daniel to bug test Flyinside FSX, which implements Rift support for FSX, and then shoot some promotional video of its use with motion for an upcoming Kickstarter campaign. Daniel was also responsible for creating DCOC which is what provides the brilliant Rift support for Prepar3D.

At the moment the early build of Flyinside FSX only supports the Steam version of FSX and unfortunately I have FSX Gold. So if possible I really want to confirm motion does work with the Steam version of FSX before I lash out and buy it.

Far out...FlyinsideFSX looks great... FSX, Rift and a Motion Sim... I'm salivating just thinking about it.

Might have to dust off the Saitek Yoke and quadrants!!!

Ok @value1 and @noorbeast.. I installed the Gold Boxed version on my C: drive (Steam is on my G: drive) and the Retail Version works as expected.
No issues, I can see values in the Tuning Centre.

The FSX.EXE for the retail is: 2,629KB

The FSX.EXE for Steam is: 2,681KB

They are different versions as well. Steam being the newer of the two.

Seems a new Plugin is needed for the Steam version :(

Thanks for that @Archie...pity they messed with it and broke motion support :(

Flyinside FSX is intended to have far more functionality than DCOC, and while FSX is not as graphically optimised as P3D all the same 3rd party addons are available.

FSX is also not as constrained as P3D license wise, so we will be able to add things like Tacpack. I already enjoy Rift aerial combat with DCS but with Tacpack I could do it over a geographically correct representation of my home town, or anywhere else in the world!

I may just have to bite the bullet and grab the Steam version of FSX to at least start bug testing Flyinside FSX.

@value1 would you have some time in the near future to have a look at Steam FSX or could you talk me through it like you have with others?

I would upgrade to Prepar3d if I were you if you can its a lot better than FSX. I have had no issues with it at all runs like a dream in the rift also :)

I already have P3D, but it is license limited and Daniel the dev who did the P3D Rift implementation is planning far more for FSX . You know me, I am really interested in expanding VR experimentation and implementation and hence am really looking forward to a small part in getting Rift support developed for FSX.

Is P3D that much better then FSX? When I have something like X-Plane? @SilentChill / @noorbeast

I cut my teeth, so to speak on on FSX, but the limitation of 32bit and it running like a dog on all but super computers, made me look at X-Plane.
However, I do prefer the landscapes and attentions to details of Ground object in FSX.

Do you get that in P3D? I hear it runs really well, being 64bit.

Just a bugger I can't bring all my ORBX purchases into P3D.

It seems most go with the P3D academic license.

I run all ORBX with my P3D setup, Base, Vector, Australia SP4, Tasmania, YMLT Launceston airport for my dad, the new tree pack, plus a bunch of other stuff. I have both paid and freeware aircraft. All of it runs well.

@Archie said: "Just a bugger I can't bring all my ORBX purchases into P3D"

I've been using P3D since v1.4 - and YES, you can use the majority of your Orbx sceneries - at least 95% of them - which now have have 3 Installers available to you in the d/l.......FSX, P3D 2.0 and lower, 2.1 and higher.
I have installed all of them and they work great in P3D........(scenery "Jackson Hole" is still not released with the third installer)....

I love P3D as LM is very progressive in updates and making the sim the 'best it can be'.............the days of constant tweaking of FSX and first generations of P3d are over. I'm running a plain
vanilla p3d.cfg with no issues whatsoever. Yes, some folks are still tinkering and tweaking and that's fine for them, but LM has made the latest v2.5 virtually "works right out of the box" sim.

Why the change - constant tweaking of FSX / MS abandoned the simulator leaving the old code........

Just check the sceneries in the d/l page at FTX and it shows all the sceneries with the three installers.

    Good luck,
    Tom

    I got P3D... It's awesome. Silky smooth!

    Everything fsx should have been.

Lots to tinker with, but it works very well with Trackir so must be amazing with rift.
Thanks for the advice gents :)
