platform is always key with new tech. dvds were + or -. beta or vhs. compatibility issues will kill a product. I just wonder whats taking them so long. seems like we should be seeing this technology mainstream already.

It is technologically challenging on both hardware and software fronts, and will remains so for some years even after the consumer release of VR.

true. the rushed stuff can kill public interest with bugs.

It is not so much bugs with VR that are the challenge, though there are plenty, but rather things like the need for extremely high frame rates at exceptionally low latency, combined with some pretty demanding optics and the bottlenecks in the quantity of data that can be efficiently pushed through.

AMD and Nvidia are yet to release the next gen cards that will help support the demands of high end VR. It will likely be some years yet before there is cost effect screens for 4K VR displays. Game developers, movie makers and others are still trying to figure out what makes a great VR experience and what does not. A lot of progress has been made on the physiological issues such as VR sickness, but there is still more to go.

While it may seem slow there really has been huge progress made in the last couple of years, from consumer grade frames per second speeds, accurate 1:1 tracking in VR spaces, acceptable graphics and a new generation of VR specific audio and input devices.

@Nick Moxley recommended that I try the F1sr 2006 Ferrari and the Virtua Simulazioni Mclaren MP4-13 mods on my DIY compact simulator, so here is a short clip of both @ Nords: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/dx-racer-compact-simulator.5866/page-18#post-87466

I had to turn down the SimTools Main Level even further to 93%, as the Ferrari is a real bone shaker. I do get some weird graphics glitches across the screen with the Ferrari, which seem to be the camera position clipping relative to the model driver, and some odd out of sync animation of the wheel when it is at full lock. The car drives exceptionally well and both looks and sounds great!

I had no issues with the Mclaren MP4-13. It is slower but takes more driving finesse than the Ferrari or William FW31 and has much greater heave travel than both.

For Future reference, The Mp-13 was Prior to My guy getting into VS, So In reality it has ZERO motion testing and data confirmation, Although it was Done by another extremely talented modder.

Problem with testing @ Nords is the fact it lacks some real Run off kerb's to test the suspension and the overall detail in the track itself has some features that as proven by the Profiler % needing to be turned down are too big. Try Monza and SPA for a True Surface detail experience. Nords has detail but No where near as much as Monza does. Dottinger hohe for example is a very digitally made mesh to give that Thud thud thud thud thud on the wheel which in conjunction comes through our heave BIG time.

I get what you mean in terms of surface @Nick Moxley, but I like the complexity of both the track and motion at Nordschleife, so here is a full lap with the Ferrari.

what software do you use to record video - with in window cam - of gameplay?

Edit: I used to use geforce experience but due to its latest bugs that didn't allow me to use the G27 with codemasters games, I had to uninstall it

I use OBS for multi source video capture, it is open source and free: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/free-dual-source-video-recording.152/

If I do post video processing I use VideoPad, mainly because I am familiar with it.

Could you suggest some codec settings for OBS?

This is a video I recorded yesterday of a lap at Nordschleife with the Formula Renauld 3.5.
sorry I don't have the 3rd person video too.

Nice driving @Blame73...nice to know others enjoy the incongruous thrill of an F1 around Nords!

Here is a picture overview of my settings for the free Open Broadcaster Software, used to do video recording from multiple sources, like a webcam and monitor. There is far more information available via the OBS FAQs and forums: https://obsproject.com/faq

OBS lets you define combinations of presets for recording from different sources, note I reduce the audio volume settings otherwise the resultant video will be recorded at 100% volume:

Thank you @noorbeast , encoding settings is what I was unsure the most. Since you use 15000 as max bitrate I assume you post process the video to compress its size, don't you?

The one in the video wasn't an F1 - although I like messing around with the Ferrari and McLaren from VirtuaSimilazioni - but a Formula Renault 3.5 car. If you didn't I suggest you tried it, really well done and - for sure - a seat shaker!!

My settings are because I record video for a variety of different purposes, @ 1080 15000 is very good quality, particularly for fast moving content.

If it is YouTube the recommendations are these: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171?hl=en

Yes I have tried the bone shaker Renault...I should have said open wheelers.
