My old computer windows 2000 software is protected by a admin password protection that was used back in 2008
Also a desklock is setup up to protect files for the motion control settings.
So I need to get to those files to do some tweaking of the settings in for the motion control board.
Any good Ideas how to get to those protected files?
    Thanks

There are also password recovery tools, just Google it and you will find a range of options.

I have always used Linux live systems to access and change the Windows settings, as I have used Linux for a long time and am comfortable with it.

    The best way is kon-boot
It doesn't touch to the files, but it can bypass any OS passwords (by loading a pgm pre-boot in ram).
You just have to install it on a usb key for example and boot on the key, it will continue boot on your hdd and your passwords will be blank (until you reboot).

    Thanks all.
@BlazinH Tonight I will try this.
@noorbeast I had forgotten about trying Linux. After the Safe mode boot I will see how to go about this with Linux....
@dJuL I have not heard of this program. I didn't see anything for Windows 2000 I see it's main focus was Windows 7.1 - on..... They did show a video how easy it is to set a new root user. I have sent them an email to see if this would work on windows 2000.
    Thanks Again good comments.

I don't know if booting in safe mode can help with passwords but it should at least give you access to your files. Another thing you could do, assuming you have another computer compatible with the hard drive in your 2k machine, is to remove the drive, put its jumper in slave position, and install and read it from a different computer.

Thanks for everybody's suggestions..... I've been so busy with work. And like all Hobbies it take a back seat..... I have been trying to startup the computer it has a strong admin protection. I hope my helper didn't mess that up. It is so stripped down I have a lot of work to do. This is ending up to be a challenge. Right now the cd wont read any cd so I haven't been able to boot up another system. So I may have to trade out the old CD.
It may be faster to take this to a computer shop and save me time. It is good to see it again. Everybody at work wants to ride in it. so that will be fun to shake them up when I get it moving...
