I didn't see or find anything mentioning about DIY seat belts. As we know to buy the actual 5 point harnesses, its not cheap and the idea of DIY is to build a Sim as inexpensively as possible, right? OK, why not build them out of the normal automotive seat belts such as this style [IMG]

The way I would do it is to get 5 out of the same car. Most of the newer cars have shoulder straps in the rear like the front, and the middle rear is a lap strap. There is one draw back using this and that is most use the tab to click into the buckle which is mounted to a stationary point. If you look at your car seat belts alot of them have the buckle part molded such to hold it upright for ease of access. You would need to remove this to get to the main part but it may not be long enough. Since the belt isn't going to be used for an actual car then cutting and sewing them to look like the one pictured wouldn't be a safety issue. The seat belt pictured would be the better idea as there's lest work to do this. The next bit would to be to weld the tabs to form a star shape similar to the 5 point harness or sew it. If anyone has a different way in which to do this, I'm all eyes :)

Ive seen ebay harnesses 4 or 5 point for something like $30. As for making your own , unless you have access to a powerful sewing machine , its not easy stictching your own up.

I'm getting a fall arrest harness from work. Sometimes they have old ones that are no longer safe for a jobsite but would be fine for a sim. might need to be modified a bit. quick-fit-frs-90299mk2.jpg If you know someone at a construction site, see if they can get a defective one for you. they are suppose to cut them up and throw them out if they are defective.

Yah I've used them as well in my work. Found this one on EBay [IMG] Much simpler to do compared to my initial post. As for stitching, some one who does upholstery or shoe repair could do it .

Like we have said, how you build your sim and what you use to build it it often driven by expertise/available expertise, budget etc, so if you are up to it, or can get someone to do it cheaply, then why not. They are although not that expensive to purchase if your not after meeting the standard.

I'm not, but looking at EBay, the cheapest I could find was the above at $20 US plus shipping which wasn't disclosed. Because I live in Canada, I've got to be concerned with the exchange rate, amount of duty, taxes imposed. You would never know it but were suppose to have some sort of Trade Agreement. As I said before I have access to a Junk Yard and it has about 400 cars to be crushed this spring ....

Fork up the $$ for something Nice, I personally Want my Rig to Look the part and IMO junk yard, Stitched together DIY job wouldn't cut it.

U can get a Pair of these for 100$(115$ now) Fortunately i had a buddy who wanted the 2nd set. Worth EVERY penny. And i highly suggest the cam lock Vs the seat belt style, Looks better and imo function's better.

Sometimes Amazon has things on sale Really Cheap.
    G-Force 6030RD Red 5-Point Pull-Down Latch and Link H-Type Shoulder Harness Set
    www.amazon.com/gp/product/ B004XH8A2Q

3" harness (weighs more than my chair) was $35 w/ prime shipping, went back up to over $90 before I'd even received it.
I have a lot of things like that on my "wish list", and from time to time, I check my phone and if the deal is good, I click.
I found the 2" cheap harnesses to be very uncomfortable, the thinner material would fold too easily and almost cut into skin. Still far better than nothing, though.
If you can swing it or find it on sale, the good harnesses are definitely worth having.
*edit: Link didn't show up... Still didn't show up
