(I don't know where post this)

    Hi everybody

Last week i tested Oculus Dk2 with LFS, Iracing and ASSETTO CORSA

    ----
This is my opinion, from 24/10/14

    OCULUS DK2 WITH IRACING 5/10

    Need to improve

    PROS

    Menus are great
    Low input lag
    + 70 hz

    CONS

    Blurred Image far away
    a bit Latency
    Not absolute positioning
    High brightness
    Not Scale 1:1
    High subpixel grid

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OCULUS DK2 WITH ASSETTO CORSA 7,5/10

Image closer much better. Lots of details inside the car.

    PROS

    Absolute positioning
    Low input lag
    + 70 hz

    CONS

    Blurred Image far away
    a bit Latency
    Adjustable brightness with HDR Options
    Not Scale 1:1
    Normal subpixel grid

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    OCULUS DK2 WITH LFS 9,5/10

    AWESOME

The best experience that i have tested in VR. You feel like in a real car ( i tested Gp2 and Formula 3000)

    PROS

    No latency
    Good image far away
    Scale 1:1
    Low pixel grid
    Natural colors
    very low inputlag
    +70 hz

    CONS

    Old Graphics

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next week i am going to test Richard Burns Rally

Lots of people are amazed of the performance in this old rally simulator. Mabye better than LFS.

    Link plugin

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next CV1 will be better (More Fov, less pixel grid and more hz).

LFS 9.5/10 ?? lol have to disagree there. In every game on the rift the graphics are blurred far away as the screen is not high enough resolution including LFS. Haven't tried iRacing so cant comment. I do think Asseto is really good and also GRID Autosport is real good fun even though its just arcade racing.

I had asked for a sub forum for the Rift and other HMD's but nothing has come of it.

9,5 was my score, mainly because the inmersion feeling is awesome.

Of course, the graphics are old, but with oculus, you don't feel that. The combo LFS and Oculus is great. And the scale 1:1, the null latency and quick of image speed is very good.

But yes, in LFS, with 1 or 3 screens (without oculus), yes, the graphics are poor.

    Nice idea @carloscasas.

While @SilentChill is correct in that any game will have less than optimal graphic resolution with the DK2 it is still useful to compare what is done well in which game.

Since the post release patch scale seems OK to me in AC, nor do I have a latency issue, so hardware may be a factor as could in-game settings.

AC has amazing immersion once you have it all setup properly the sound the graphics is just way beyond what LFS is however that is just my opinion though.

Once I got the motion setup right and wowzers it feels like im in that Zonda !!

    ;)

Yes, AC has very good graphics and details, but i felt more inmersion in LFS

I think the quality of the inside car graphics helps with the Rift immersion on AC. After a while driving I find myself wondering why my virtual hands do not move off the steering wheel :) I have no latency on either AC or LFS. I let my IRacing account close as my internet connection can be a bit flakey, which made it impossible to drive sometimes on-line with a few cars on the track (They use to disappear/reappear at random :().

Blurred Image far away neither more nor less than pCars for example
Latency no latency at all ! on the contrary it is very fluid !
Not Scale 1:1 just have to change FOV to 100 and scale is 1:1 !

Maybe the computer or graphic settings of my friend were not very good. I need to test it again.

    But, LFS won (IMO)

Eyestrain and nausea are the main signs of a poorly configured Rift, excluding personal sensitivities. Rift demonstrators make it worse when first time Rift users do not get the chance to acclimatize and instead are thrown off the deep end of some pretty intense experiences.

The hardware related factors have already greatly improved, though things such as judder and latency need further refinement at the hardware, SDK and game level implementations.

Some people remain sensitive to VR sickness regardless of technical issues, so the Rift is not ideal for all people.

Same here, I can use my DK1 or DK2 Rift all day no problems at all, and the same is true of my 83 year old father. My sister on the other hand is very sensitive.

Practice shows that you can build up a lot of VR sickness resistance if you use it often, even if you have very high degree of VR sickness. There's also interesting report that educating people on VR sickness greatly reduces VR sickness, which is odd and not really beleivable, but statistically it gives very significant VR tolerance boost.

It's true that picture clarity is low and this is fundamental limitation of the Rift. However, it's also true that LFS has crispier picture, oddly enough. This has to do with mipping, a technique in 3d rendering that used to improve rendering speed (scaling textures up is a lot faster operation than scaling textures down) and reduce memory bandwidth usage. Original texture is downscaled a number of times, shrinking in half each step. That increases total memory use by only 33% and performance increase completely outweights extra memory requirement. The program chooses mip of specific resolution to sample texture from by estimating how much pixels a texel from that mip will span. E.g. if a highest-resolution texture texel will span less than 1 pixel, then sub-resolution mip is selected and now its texel will span slightly more than 1 pixel on the screen. This is default, which yields picture slightly more blurried than it could've been if the renderer sampled one step higher resolution texture, but you can bias it towards lower or higher resolution manually via graphics API. LFS allows to bias mipping lookup towards higher resolution mipmap through game menus and config file, thus making the picture crispier. You usually can not tell the difference on a monitor, but with Rift's resolution the difference is rather striking.

Its been known since 2013 that the Rift SDK does not play nicely with mipmapping: http://doc-ok.org/?p=548
And continues to be a problem for even big title developers with the DK2: https://forums.oculus.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=12334&start=260#p205171
