Has anyone else given this a go? @noorbeast?

They did a great job on the menus / etc but for some reason it doesn't feel 1:1 or something is off and makes me sick with motion. Weird thing is Assetto Corsa with motion seems fine, but iRacing makes me sick real fast.

I seem to have the same issue with Project Cars as well, doesn't feel 1:1 or something.

Do framerates have a huge effect in any of this in the games? I'm running a nVidia 670 FTW right now and wondering if I need to upgrade to something with some more power like a 290x.

Sorry @scalhoun I let my iRacing account lapse after initially trying it way back when with the DK1. It was one of the best early implementations then but I am not seriously into racing enough to have gone back and renewed the account to try it with the DK2, as there are plenty of other options that allow me to experiment with the Rift.

You have probably come across some or all of below but here are possible contributing factors that may be at play in how you react, which really relate to the DK2 being a developer toy rather than consumer product.

First is how well or not a game implements your proper IPD. War Thunder is about the worst, though there are some hacks and suggestions on the WT forum that help, including one from myself.

Second is frame rates. This is a tricky one because you want to get as close as you can to maintaining the Oculus recommended 75 fps as possible and how best to do that depends on both your rig, game settings and in some cases using third party apps to regulate a consistent frame rate. It usually pays to have the Rift as you primary monitor. Sometimes you have to lower the resolution to allow setting it to 75hz.

Next is judder. There is a DK2 bug that results in head movement induced judder. DCS is well known for this and it is better or worse depending on what plane you choose. Only Oculus can fix this and all we can do is try and minimise it.

Tracking also contributes to people feeling 'off' if it is not 1:1, as does smoothness as you move. Many games do not yet have setting to let you tweak both. You can hack around in core game config files and that works for some games, again WT is and example. ALWAYS make a config file backup first before trying anything. Do turn off motion blur and turn down setting to get a smooth experience, even at the cost of resolution. It is not possible for all games but I often use SweetFX to squeeze the best compromise in graphics quality and frame rates.

Some games do allow adjusting the FOV and have a play with it if you can. If not then it is often back to hacking the config files.

Do update the Oculus runtime to the version released a few days ago, but I would not get my hopes up as I found it rarely helped and in some cases like Prepar3d made judder worse. Still it pays to keep up and base any tweaks around the latest release.

The best place for specific tweaks tend to be the game and Oculus forums. You will have to check them both for iRacing suggestions as it has not been on my radar.

@SilentChill give it a try, it's a unique experience. They have a free trial, pretty sure they did a free 3 month free deal recently, might still be active. I normally play AC, Project Cars, iRacing and a little Dirt 3. I signed up with a dummy account and once I knew I liked it bought the 2 year deal as it's way cheaper if your going to stick with it. It is expensive, but I haven't found the strict experience in any other game. The way they track car contact against your safety rating and licenses its literally like you wrecked a real car so it makes ppl drive safer and be more intense so it's not something I do if I just want to screw around. If anything join a oval race and enjoy the chatter during a wreck.. haha

To me iracing is not a "game" per se...it is a venue for real competition. I like Acetto Corsa better in terms of realism of car handling but having a real race with other relative "equals" is as close to real racing as you can get.

I can hardly wait until Oculus is truly ready. It will improve the simulation experience. In real racing you tend to steer where your eyes look..this does not happen with static monitors. The most awesome would be Oculus with EYE tracking. (Not just head tracking.)
