I am making enough progress on my build that I am now looking into the software stuff. I really want to have the No Limits Roller Coaster (v2 is out on their website) and at this time I can only get 1 racing game.

So, I throw the question out to you experienced players. If all of your games went bye-bye tomorrow and you were only allowed to replace 1 game - which one would you pick?

    Thanks,
    Steve

I think that really depends on your personal criteria. Mine is a little odd in that any simulation is secondary to how it allows me to explore the limits of the Oculus Rift. That said mine is Assetto Corsa, as per here: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/assetto-corsa-for-a-few-days-50-drop.5715/#post-59985

For me Assetto Corsa is a great playground to mess with, which is my criteria rather than actual racing. I will be interested to see what others fancy and why. I know one thing for sure, most would say one sim is never enough...but is enough to get you started ;)

Its not bad can require a high end pc to get the best out of it thou.
I spend more time in a couple of oldies, Race07 (which mods and tracks still being made for) and Dirt3 (addicted to it)

But have AC too, could just have one game thou, that would be hard.

@eaorobbie - you cheated! You listed more than 1 game. Lol. But, I am not going to lie, your comment about needing a high end PC has me thinking. I have quickly realized I am going to need some upgrades, but I would like to avoid breaking the bank. I am a newbie in the sim world, so an oldie but a goodie would probably give me a great time.

I do have a question about running through the Jrk/sim tools setup. Do I have the ability to download Simtools onto a laptop for setup purposes, even before I have a gaming ready PC? My hope is that I can let the wife see how cool it is moving around so I can get her to authorize a few extra bucks for the necessary PC upgrade.

Ah yes, you can setup the laptop with Simtools on it and a game with the Jrks running on it too.
This is why I first built an RC model and made it work before outlaying precious dollars to build a sim.
2x Teenagers , House payments , etc, Sims and hobbies have to wait till I save for it.

@value1 - so, does Sim Tools allow you to function through the movements manually. At this time, I do not have any games, but I am hoping to be able to have someone sit down in the seat and I would move them around a bit - using SimTools. So you are running your laptop separate from your gaming set-up?

    Thanks,
    Steve

@CoachKalk - You can download Kart Racing PRO; the demo is fully functional with limited circuit and kart ;)

@soraz - thank you for the suggestion. My main issue is that my PC isn't currently up to the task. If you know, would the download you suggested still be functional, even if not great, on a typical PC? I will also take a look at the specs, but I figured I would ask. I am not very familiar with gaming requirements.

    Thanks,
    Steve

I set up 2 pcs a while ago BS (before simtools) , the guy had a 2.1 gig dual core tower , Win XP , 2 gig ram and a 8800gs in it . The most he could run was rfactor. The other was his 5-6 year old laptop, 2 gig dual core 2 gig ram, Windows 7. We used laptop for jrk control networked to the "tower" for his game. I gave a 9800GT card to put in it.
That gaming pc was ok and did the job. He got ripped off over the intial cost of it because he was an rfactor fan. He spend $800 on $200 of hardware.
Best look and show us what you have so far, it might be ok.
Also, you can go to www.canirunit.com and the site does a small analysis of the pc to see if it will run the game planned.
Thats a good way to see if it will play what you have in mind.

Gaming PCs do not have to cost a bomb. I run 1 of my simulators with an elcheapo AMD , Basic quad core, 4 gig ram, 500gb HDD, 650watt psu, basic motherboard, windows 7 32 bit cracked, GTX560ti . I got the graphics card second hand from a shop with warranty, so that less than halved the original price of $250. And a crappy case.
All up it cost me about $580. And that will play the likes of Dirt2 at full hd, with all settings high (not max) .
It will run game and simtools perfectly.

On the other simulator , (yes I have 2) , I run a laptop for jrk control and the main PC is a $1100 special AMD 6 core , 16 gig ram, GTX 560ti, very good motherboard, 800 watt psu, 500 gb HDD, Win 7 64 bit proper version.
I run a laptop with that one for beta testing as its easier to change settings "on the fly".
Laptop is dual core intel 2.1 gig something, 4 gig ram, win 7 cracked 32 bit.

Yes you can setup SimTools on the laptop, a cheap rc model of a sim and manually control the sim Via SimTools Output testing. With no game running, or in turn control the Jrks.

Assetto Corsa has great physics and FFB in your racing wheel.

But for PURE RACE, i prefer IRACING. Servers 24 h / day, 365 days / year. You can race whenever you want with drivers like you (your same level) and No lag.

ps = And you don't need a GAMING PC. With a typical PC you can run it.

For example, with Skip Barber, you can have awesome battles (100% fairplay).

For me, it's Assetto Corsa, at least until I get to try Project Cars! (It looks amazing in the Rift BTW)

I liked iRacing, but I'll wait until I hone my racing skills a little better before I attempt it again!
