Had a fellow track car friend over to try out my sim and him not being a sim racer he really struggled with judging speed especially approaching a corner - said it felt allot slower than it stated. I wonder if this is something you just learned to deal with when driving a sim (even with lots of motion cues), or is it an issue with a single screens field of view or something else? Would three screens help with this? I should get my Rift in July, so will be interested in its impact.

Yes, The wider the FOV, the faster it feels. Three screens help, but it is another world with the Rift! I moved to Rift (DK1 obviously) earlier this year and never looked back.

Can make a test, if you put ridiculously wide FOV on one screen, the scale is obviously wrong, but you get distorted "speed of light" effect, looks very fast.

I feel 3 screen makes a world of difference, just feels better with the images in the peripheral vision help to feel the speed you are travelling at, but do a agree with them.

Three screens definitely can give your eyes the corner full " Data " ...

but the breaking and road rumples plus other traction forces are almost 80% of data input to your brain while driving to calculate the car mass behavior through a given up or down slop curve for speed accurate judging ...

I agree the rift wider FOV makes it feel faster but my experience on my DK1 was also that the lower resolution messed with my depth judgement for corners on any unknown track and I was significantly slower. What I found most immersive with the rift is that your peripheral vision is far more at play in giving ques than with monitors. You can pretty much feel that car creeping up next to you as you jostle in a pack for position.

True and agree, low resolution in dk1 makes it almost unplayable in racing games. Almost. But I've got used to it. Can't wait commercial release though :)

I am hanging out for my DK2...even that will be a significant improvement over the DK1. The rift SDK also got an update today, so hopefully there will be a fair improvement in latency and blurring.
