You can now play Assetto Corsa on your Vive using Revive: https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/4jyi36/assetto_corsa_works_with_revive/

    Get and install Revive: https://github.com/LibreVR/Revive

Extract the old Project Car patch to the Assetto Corsa directory: https://github.com/LibreVR/Revive/releases/download/0.4.1/RevivePCars.zip

Uncheck "Use Desktop Game Theatre while SteamVR is active" at AC`s properties in steam library

Open AC in Steam and change Rendering Mode to Oculus Rift.

    Start racing with your Vive.

And now the time has come to pull the trigger on one of these...Which to choose...

The ideal thing to do if you can is to try both, preferably back to back. Ask on Reddit, there may be VR enthusiasts in your area that could help out and many enjoy showing off VR.

If that is not possible then I would suggest that if you want the most complete immersive first gen VR experience currently available then get the Vive. If you only plan seated and perhaps limited standing VR experiences then get the Rift.

The Rift is less fuss to use and pretty comfortable for most people, though not all. The Vive takes far more space and effort to set up and use, but roomscale and tracked controllers means much more presence for non-seated gaming.

Currently the Vive can utilise many of the Oculus exclusive titles and other games like Assetto Corsa and War Thunder via the Revive injector, which is super easy to install and use. But Oculus could choose to break that compatibility.

I will use my Rift with my motion rig and Vive in my lounge for roomscale. I will do some development with both but it is the Vive that holds my interest there.

Keep in mind that I am a VR enthusiast, not really a gamer. So I am biased toward the Vive as it genuinely expands the VR horizons, while for me the Rift is just a DK2 upgrade at the moment. Oculus has so far indicated that its interest is forward facing standing experiences with Touch and it is not yet known when Touch will be widely available, at what cost and with what capabilities. Personally I don't think Touch will be capable of the volume tracking that I already have set up at home, which is Vive base stations 9M apart.

    Thank you for you explanation..!

In my case, specially for now (and next year)...I can only do seated experiences as I live in a 2-room apartment with no left-over space.
Also, only "game" I've got om my PC is Assetto Corsa.

I was leaning more towards the Vive reading the users reviews.

The 2nd-hand market of the DK2 is also exploding...Maybe start with one of those as I read the CV1 isn't that much better.

    Choises, choises :D

So if Strictly a seated experience you suggest the Rift....Good to know.

Yes, it is easier to put on and off. Though it can still be a bit fiddly to get perfect position for the sweet spot.

But I would stick with Steam instead of Oculus Home. Home has far less features, no refund policy and for things like Pcars you are limited to playing against others on the Oculus servers, so no open competition.

Well I called this one...Oculus broke the Revive compatibility and it pretty much looks deliberate, as there is no logical reason why a store needs to check if a designated peripheral is plugged in, yet that is what Oculus has implemented: https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/4k8fmm/new_oculus_update_breaks_revive/

OR has Oculus Home, and can use Steam VR...
Vive has Steam VR, but can not use Home and other features without ReVive...
wouldnt that make OR the most versatile?

The problem with Oculus Home is that you are locked into using their hardware to play any games you own.

To put it bluntly Oculus is already behind in features for both the Rift (no Touch at launch, no room scale) and Oculus Home itself (too many feature deficiencies to list compared to Steam). Now should you want to go with a headset other than the Rift for CV2, because it happens to be substantially better than what Oculus offers, then you would not be able to play the games you already purchased on Oculus Home.

Put another way would you buy games that were locked to using a particular brand of monitor or mouse...of course not because locking into hardware is not a good idea.

    I played AC with ReVive.
one question: is that OK with FPS 44.7?
I tried to turn off some graphic options and make fps up to 53.7 but it was laggy at 53.7.
should I make it up to 60 fps or 90 fps, or keep it smooth at 44.7?

I found that turn off Anti-Alias and Post-processing effect will make the view rang better.

Imo those are VERY low VR #'s....90 is the minimum to be quoted to not cause motion sickness....so ill assume 53 and 44fps is a no Go situation.

The Vive uses interleaved reprojection, which is usually enabled by default. It should be pretty smooth with a GTX 970 or better: https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/4jyi36/assetto_corsa_works_with_revive/

OK, I tried to modify my graphic setting one by one.
I found set Mirror Resolution to Normal make VR FPS up to 89.5 from 44.7.
but when ever I put cars more than 8, it down to 44.7 again.

    my PC:
    Intel 6700K 4Ghz
    Asus Z170AR
    Nvidia GTX1080 (msi)
    32G RAM
    500G SSD
    3T HDD
    Blu-Ray combo
    700W POWER

    my setting:
    res 1080
    Vertical Sync OFF
    Anti-Alias OFF
    PP effect OFF
    Mirror Resolution Normal
    others goes MAX

I guess my PC can do more than this, should it?

edit: I tried Nvidia DSR 4K, I cant feel any change. is that me or something?

    yes, I did,
go Nvidia 3D manger, check every thing in DRS column, go AC, change resolution to 4K,
only change I found is the UI comes very small.

Just got the sim up and running with my vive, and it's a completely different experience! I still need to tweak my profiles, but it's still amazing. Can't wait to delve a bit deeper into it.
